Coming off an 8-1 regular season, Churubusco made a statement that it will once again be a tough out in 2019, winning at home against Whitko 26-0 Friday to open the season.
The unquestioned star for the Eagles was Jake Fulk, who ran 25 times for a 278 yards and four touchdowns. Fulk had a touchdown in each quarter, breaking runs of 24, 6, 28 and 54 yards for scores.
CARROLL 42, BISHOP LUERS 0: At Carroll, Hunter Mertz scored three rushing touchdowns for the Chargers (1-0), while quarterback Jeffrey Becker went 16 for 30 for 224 yards and a score and also ran for a touchdown.
SNIDER 51, NORTH SIDE 0: At North Side, the Panthers (1-0) jumped out to a 28-point lead in the first quarter behind three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) from senior quarterback Jon Barnes Jr. Barnes finished 5 of 8 for 123 yards and two scores and senior Alonzo Derrick scored on a 76-yard run.
ADAMS CENTRAL 40, BELLMONT 0: At Bellmont, Blake Heyerly ran for 163 yards and a touchdown, averaging 7.4 yards per carry to lead the Flying Jets (1-0). Dallas Schwaller ran for one touchdown and passed for another.
WAWASEE 28, LAKELAND 14: At Wawasee, Ethan Garza and Parker Young each had two rushing touchdowns for the Warriors (1-0). Young, the quarterback, had 181 total yards. Lakeland's Camryn Holbrook ran for 136 yards and a TD.
BLUFFTON 24, NORTHFIELD 20: At Northfield, Hayden Nern threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Kain Thornton with 17 seconds left in the game to lead the Tigers (1-0) to the win.
EASTSIDE 44, HERITAGE 0: At Heritage, Matt Firestine ran 16 times for 120 yards and two touchdowns for Eastside (1-0). Quarterback Laban Davis had a 55-yard touchdown pass to Wade Miller.
