Teenager shot near McKee dies

Witness says she heard 'scuffle'

JAMIE DUFFY | The Journal Gazette

The teenage boy who underwent surgery Wednesday night after he was shot in an alley on Fort Wayne's southeast side has died, police said.

The identity of the 15-year-old victim will be released by the Allen County coroner's office.

Jason Anthony, Fort Wayne police public information officer, said the shooting happened about 7 p.m. Wednesday in an alleyway about 50 feet off McKee Street, between Euclid Avenue and Central Drive.

The teen was found suffering from several gunshot wounds and taken to a hospital by medics, Anthony said.

Police interviewed several witnesses and used a dog to track possible suspects. Police were also collecting video from home surveillance cameras, Anthony said.

A woman and her son, who said the victim was visiting them at their Euclid Avenue home, went to him when he was lying in the alley. The son said at first the victim was “coherent.” Then, his eyes looked “vacant,” he said.

They both said the teen left their home and was walking to a nearby gas station when he was shot. The woman said she heard “a scuffle.”

Another friend who came to the scene said the victim was 16 or 17 years old.

A woman who lived upstairs in the same house said the teen was “the nicest” and would take out her garbage without her even asking.

Police ask that anyone who has any information about the shooting call 427-1222.
