Gunshot from outside home hits boy inside

Someone fired a gun at a southeast-side home early Sunday, badly injuring an 8-year-old boy, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Police responded to the 3200 block of Logan Avenue near Adams Elementary School about 2 a.m. to find the boy suffering from a gunshot wound to his shoulder/chest, police said.

Paramedics took him to a hospital, where a physician downgraded his condition from serious to life-threatening, police said. The boy was updated to stable condition Monday morning, a statement from police said.

Preliminary information indicated the boy was inside the residence, and gunshots were fired from outside, police said. Detectives were interviewing witnesses who inside the home at the time of the shooting, police added.
