Fort Wayne police had few details Tuesday about the death of a man found near railroad tracks on the city's southeast side – but they called it suspicious.
Railroad workers alerted police about 9 a.m. to the situation at Oxford Street and Meyer Road. The tracks cross Meyer Road just north of Oxford Street.
The man was pronounced dead on the scene, and detectives were notified, the Fort Wayne Police Department said.
“It did not appear as though he had been struck by a train,” police said in a statement.
Police asked those with information to call the detective bureau at 260-427-1201 or Crime Stoppers at 260-436-7867.
The Allen County coroner's office will release the man's identity and cause of death. If it is ruled a homicide, it would be the county's first in 2020.
There were 29 homicides in 2019.
