The Allen County coroner identified the county's latest homicide victim Thursday, the third slaying this week.
Dominic Andrew Price, 26, died at 2:13 a.m. Thursday in the 2900 block of Boardwalk Circle. He was shot multiple times at Bluffton Park Apartments off Bluffton Road on the city's south side, police and the coroner said.
Officers arrived about 1:25 a.m. to find Price lying outside an apartment suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Medics determined he was in critical condition, and he was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to a Fort Wayne police report.
Police said two men were in a confrontation and then gunshots were fired. The shooter was interviewed by police and is considered a person of interest, authorities said. Witnesses were also interviewed, police said.
Investigators are trying to figure out the relationship between the two men and whether either one was a resident at the apartment complex.
Price's death is the 23rd homicide in Allen County this year. At this time last year, there had been 36 homicides.
About 4 p.m. Thursday, there was little activity at the apartment complex, which is tucked at the rear of a short street that includes single-family homes. A woman working at the front desk said the complex has 87 units, mostly one- and two-bedroom apartments.
No one has been charged in the death of Price, according to Sofia Rosales-Scatena, spokeswoman for the Fort Wayne Police Department.
The first slaying this week occurred Sunday morning in the 900 block of Francis Street. On Wednesday, Lakeshia James, 27, was charged with murder in the stabbing death of O'sha D.K. Booher-Ford, 26, who died at 11:21 a.m. Sunday after an altercation about three hours earlier, court documents said.
James told police she'd discovered that Booher-Ford, her boyfriend, had been unfaithful and confronted him with texts found on his cellphone at 8 a.m. Sunday. An argument led to the fatal stabbing of Booher-Ford, according to court documents. Later Sunday, city police found Pablo Guzman Vasquez, 40, dead of multiple gunshot wounds lying on a lawn in the 600 block of Runnion Avenue. No one has been arrested in his death, police said.
Two days after Vasquez was killed, a home was shot at in the same block of Runnion, a neighbor sitting on a front porch said Thursday. The shots were reported at 5:02 p.m., according to an email from Rosales-Scatena, who added that “there was a lot of investigatory info in the reports” and wasn't able to divulge more information.
Officers did find evidence of gunfire and damage to a house and at least one car, Rosales-Scatena said.
The neighbor said the shots were fired just before middle school and high school students were dropped off by a school bus, which arrived about 5:05 p.m. Thursday.
Fort Wayne police are investigating the shooting as well as the death of Vasquez.
