Journal Gazette

A man died in Huntington County early Sunday after being struck by a tractor-trailer rig on Interstate 69 near Warren, the Huntington County Sheriff's Department said.

About 1:30 a.m., Balbir Purewal, 55, of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, was driving a semi north on the interstate, just north of the Indiana 5 exit when he passed a pickup truck parked on the right shoulder of the highway, the sheriff's department said in a statement.

Purewal moved toward the center of the northbound lanes as he was passing the pickup, the statement said, when a man stepped out into the path of the semi.

The victim was found in a ditch on the northeast side of the road and was pronounced dead by the Huntington County coroner. His name was not released pending notification of family.

The incident is under investigation.
