Motorcycle rider killed in crash with SUV

JAMIE DUFFY | The Journal Gazette

Police are investigating a crash between a motorcycle and an SUV that left the motorcycle rider dead in the middle of the intersection at West Jefferson Boulevard and Liberty Mills Road on Friday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 4 p.m. amidst heavy traffic. The motorcycle rider was headed east on West Jefferson Boulevard and the SUV driver was turning south from Jefferson Boulevard onto Liberty Mills Road, Sofia Rosales-Scatena, Fort Wayne Police spokeswoman, said at the scene.

Rosales-Scatena said the motorcycle rider was female and the police did not find a helmet at the crash scene. She added that the multi-lane intersection sees a lot of speeding and light running.

“We do have this as a bad intersection on our radar,” Rosales-Scatena said.

Lanes on Jefferson were kept open both east and west with restrictions as the investigation took place. The victim's identity and the cause and manner of death will be released at a later date by the Allen County Coroner's Office.
