Coroner rules Wednesday shooting a homicide

A man who was shot on Euclid Avenue Wednesday night died early today, police said.

The coroner's office identified the victim as Corey Appleberry, 29, of Fort Wayne. He was shot in the abdomen. His death is the 19th homicide this year in Allen County.

Police were called around 8 p.m. Wednesday to the 2700 block of Euclid Avenue.

Appleberry was found in a front yard.

The alleged shooter, who is related to the victim, was questioned by police, police said.

"We are still actively working this case and are following up with leads," Sofia Rosales-Scatena, city police public information officer said. "We believe that we may have several witnesses that may have information that will help us in this case. We would like to ask them to come forward and call us so we can speak with them. At this point we are still trying to determine circumstances into this shooting death. We are hoping that people who may have information will assist us in this matter."
