Donald P. Schulz and his wife were supposed to go on a date. But instead, when police arrived at their Grabill home around 3 a.m. Wednesday, officers said the woman and her daughter were cowering inside a locked room.
Investigators convinced the alleged victim and her daughter to climb out a window while ordering Schulz, 37, to exit the front door with his hands in the air, according to court documents.
Schulz was charged Wednesday in Allen Superior Court with domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury, criminal confinement, domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury and intimidation.
Schulz told officers that he got mad at his wife of 1 1/2 years because she wasn't feeling well and didn't want to go on a date, a probable cause affidavit alleges.
But officers were more interested in the tennis ball-sized bump that appeared to be swelling and growing in size on the left side of his wife's forehead. The woman told police when Schulz got mad at her for leaving his truck, he punched her.
There was also damage to her eyes that had purplish and yellow bruising around them as well as redness around her neck and chest area, police said.
