War memorial may get county fix
BLOOMINGTON – Monroe County could soon be kicking in some money toward restoring a 35-foot-tall limestone military memorial on the courthouse grounds in downtown Bloomington.
The 1928 memorial is bady worn, but county veterans' service officer Mary Elftman said only about $10,000 has been raised toward the estimated $208,000 cost of restoration. Elftman says it is fabulous that the county commissioners plan to include the project in a $5 million bond issue for several projects.
