Concrete group honors local Wall
The Veterans National Memorial Shrine & Museum was recently awarded the 2022 Concrete Achievement Award by the Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association for the construction of a smaller replica of the Vietnam Wall.
The award was presented Jan. 17 in Indianapolis to Commander Greg Bedford; Chris Harmon, director of field operations for Hagerman Construction; and Shawn Hacker, foreman on the wall project for Hagerman.
The award was for excellence in concrete construction of the wall, which took seven months to construct. The Vietnam Wall was dedicated May 29.
The award honors Hagerman for Structural Engineering Services; Viridian Architectural Design Inc. and Irving Materials Inc.
VFW Post 857 hits 100-year mark
Veterans of Foreign Wars Jim Eby Post 857, 2202 W. Main St., recently celebrated its 100th anniversary.
Presentations during an anniversary event included a certificate of the Century Award from National VFW Commander-in-Chief Fritz Mihelcic, presented by Indiana Commander Dick Lineberry. He said Post 857 is the second oldest VFW post in Indiana.
Post 857 was chartered Jan. 13, 1922, with 118 members and is named after Jim Eby, one of the first Allen County men killed in France in World War I, and now buried in Bowers Cemetery. Current comrade membership is about 240.
Nash running for council
Curtis Nash will seek the Democratic nomination for the District 2 County Council seat held by Tom Harris. Nash filed his candidacy Tuesday to run in the May 3 primary. Harris is seeking his fourth term on the council.
The council's 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th District seats are up for election this year.
Paul Lagemann is seeking the Republican nomination for his first full term representing the 3rd District.
Cameron Kelley is seeking the Republican nomination for the District 4 seat held by Republican Chris Spurr, who had not filed as of Tuesday.
