Two flown to local hospital after Huntington County head-on crash

DAVE GONG | The Journal Gazette

Two people were in critical condition today following a head-on collision in Huntington County.

According to the Huntington County Sheriff's Department, at about 4:40 p.m., a vehicle driven by Luv Kumar Chohan, 17, of Marion, was following behind another vehicle, heading east on Indiana 218 about 2,100 feet east of County Road 300, when both cars attempted to pass a third, slower-moving vehicle.

The car ahead of Chohan made the pass safely, but Chohan struck a west bound vehicle driven by Katelyn Spangler, 19, of Warren, head-on.

Chohan's car came to a stop off of the north side of the road, while Spangler's vehicle came to rest in the west bound travel lane and immediately caught fire. First responders and another driver successfully rescued Spangler from the vehicle.

Both Spangler and Chohan were flown to a Fort Wayne hospital for treatment for critical injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
