June 18, 1980: Sandblasting the library – or filming for 'Star Wars'?

COREY MCMAKEN | The Journal Gazette

The Journal Gazette's caption writers had a little fun with these pictures of a local worker who was sandblasting the Allen County Public Library downtown as work was nearly completed on an addition to the library.

The cutline with photos on the front page of June 19, 1980, started out: "Although George Lucas of 'Star Wars' fame has not contacted John Wright of Fort Wayne, Wright appears ready for Lucas' next movie."

"Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" had be released the previous month.
