Community Update


“SILENCE OF A WINTER'S NIGHT”: 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday; Salamonie Lake, 3691 New Holland Road, Andrews; 9 years or older; participants will create their own winter sky chart and learn about stargazing with astronomy enthusiasts Steve and Debbie Russell; meal is included; telescope viewing outdoors will begin after the sky has reached darkness; alternate programming will take place in the event of poor visibility; cost is $20 person or $30 pair; advance registration is required at 260-468-2127.


THE LIGHTHOUSE – “STUFF A BUG”: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today through Saturday; drop off donations (paper towels, toilet paper, hygiene items, trash bags, cleaning supplies, laundry soap, paper plates, plastic silverware, copy paper, postage stamps) at Vorderman's Showroom, 5811 Cross Creek Blvd., or at The Lighthouse family thrift store, 4718 Parnell Ave.; The Lighthouse serves those struggling with life-altering issues.

THE FOOD EXODUS PROJECT: HealthVisions Midwest, in conjunction with the Allen County Public Library, will host documentary and series of community conversations to raise awareness about food deserts and barriers to food access in Fort Wayne's underserved communities; noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at downtown library auditorium; event will also include informational booths for Purdue Extension's Johnnie Mae Farm market and HEAL Farm Markets; livestream option also available; to register and more information, go to and click on the “food exodus project” tab.

TRINE UNIVERSITY'S SHORT STORY CLUB: Virtual event 5:30 p.m. Thursday; for those who like talking about stories and ideas with others but don't have time to read a novel; participants will receive a copy of the story and a Zoom link prior to each meeting; “War Dances” by Sherman Alexie will be the topic of discussion; more information at
