Sweetwater Sound has acquired Dave's Music Den, a local print music retailer that has operated independently in its building for 11 years.

Sweetwater will buy select inventory from Dave's Music Den to sell at its campus on U.S. 30. Exact financial terms were not disclosed.

Beth Wind, owner of Dave's Music Den, will become Sweetwater's print music specialist. The retail store will be called Sweetwater Print Music.

Thad Tegtmeyer, vice president of campus sales operations and artist relations for Sweetwater, said the acquisition allows Sweetwater to expand its offerings.

“We've got a lot of customers there that rely on that particular service,” he said. “And so we wanted to keep that going in order to properly service them.”

Dave's Music Den had operated in Fort Wayne for 33 years.

Wind said she is glad Sweetwater recognized the need for print music; she compared the value of visiting a print music shop to the value of visiting a bookstore or record shop. She said customers value physically looking through music before deciding what they want to buy.

Wind is excited about her new role.

“I get to focus on the things that I love to do, and that's to sell music and also to be able to engage in these workshops with the customers and teachers and directors, and to me, that'll be a real positive,” she said.
