Blackhawk Christian boys basketball coach Marc Davidson tonight was named the IndyStar Coach of the Year for the 2020-21 athletics season in Indiana high school sports.
Davidson beat out the other finalists: Westfield football coach Jake Gilbert and Yorktown volleyball coach Stephanie Bloom. His award was announced on Twitter in a video and the winner was revealed by Jacksonville Jaguars coach Urban Meyer.
Davidson led Blackhawk Christian to the Class 2A state championship this season, the second crown in three years for the Braves (the 2020 tournament was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic). Under his leadership, Blackhawk went 28-3 and won every game in the state tournament by at least 13 points. The state title game against Parke Heritage at Bankers Life Fieldhouse ended 55-40 in the Braves' favor.
Blackhawk center Caleb Furst was named Indiana Mr. Basketball.
Davidson is 174-50 in eight seasons with Blackhawk. During this season, he was battling a rare form of cancer that required surgery in October.
