Smith's campaign hits 25,000 doors

DAVE GONG | The Journal Gazette

The campaign to elect a Republican mayor in Fort Wayne has knocked on 25,000 doors, according to a news release.

"I am humbled and thankful for the tremendous grassroots support of my campaign," Tim Smith said in a statement Monday. "Whether door knocking, talking with neighborhood associations, or meeting with small groups in people's homes, I am impressed by the number of people backing my candidacy from all walks of life."

Smith, who is facing Mayor Tom Henry, a Democrat, also said he is impressed by the number of voters "who have told me they expect more from city leadership" and that he plans to continue to run "an issues-based campaign focused on listening to Fort Wayne residents."

The city general election is Nov. 5.
