South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg is running third among Democratic presidential candidates in polling results released this week by Morning Consult.
Buttigieg is favored by 9% of registered Democratic voters. He placed behind former vice president Joe Biden, who is favored by 30% of voters, and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who is favored by 24 percent.
The survey was taken of more than 14,000 registered Democratic voters from April 14 through April 21. The margin of error was 1%.
Buttigieg has climbed steadily in Morning Consult polls conducted in recent weeks as news media coverage of his candidacy increased. He was favored by 2% of poll respondents on March 24, 5% on April 7 and 7% on April 14.
In the past month, Buttigieg has leapfrogged Sens. Kamala Harris of California, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Cory Booker of New Jersey and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and former Texas congressman Beto O'Rourke in Morning Consult poll results.
Buttigieg also is preferred by 9% of voters in early-primary states Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada. He is tied with Harris for third place behind Biden and Sanders in those four states, according to Morning Consult.
