Journal Gazette

Indiana is the nation's 10th most federally dependent state, according to an analysis by personal-finance website WalletHub.

WalletHub compared states according to taxes paid to the federal government, federal funding as a share of state revenue and share of federal jobs.

Indiana ranked fourth highest for federal assistance received, excluding grants, for each dollar of federal taxes paid.

New Mexico, Mississippi and Kentucky, in order, were the most federally dependent states in the WalletHub study released Tuesday. Kansas, Delaware and New Jersey, in order, were the least dependent.

Besides Kentucky, rankings for Indiana's neighbors were Michigan, 27th; Ohio, 28th; and Illinois, 46th.
