Republican seeking at-large City Council seat

DAVE GONG | The Journal Gazette

The first Republican candidate for one of Fort Wayne's at-large City Council seats will formally announce his bid Wednesday night.

Nathan Hartman, an actuarial pension consultant who currently serves as a member of the Cable Fund Access Board, the Citilink board and the Allen County Economic Development Commission, is expected to announce his candidacy at Allen County GOP headquarters. It's not Hartman's first time on the ballot; he ran an unsuccessful bid for an at-large seat on the Allen County Council during the 2016 Republican Party primary.

The Fort Wayne City Council's three at-large seats are currently held by three Republican council members: John Crawford, Tom Freistroffer and Michael Barranda. Although neither Freistroffer nor Barranda has yet announced whether they plan to seek re-election, Crawford has announced he plans to seek the Republican nomination for mayor next year. He will face fellow Republican Tim Smith in the May 2019 primary.
