Purdue Fort Wayne posted it best Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association regular season finish since 2007. Receiving home court advantage for the first time in four years is huge for this team, that at times this season, has shown incredible talent and cohesiveness. At the same time, the Mastodons weakness' have been exposed, especially as of late.
PFW dropped the final two matches of the season to Ohio State and McKendree – both teams it beat prior. Also the Mastodons held a 2-1 lead in both of those matches.
Coach Ryan Perrotte said defense is key.
"Our intensity to play defense," he said of what's needed to win. "If we can slow them down offensively then we'll have a really good opportunity in beating them on Saturday."
It's hard to beat a team three times in a row, so this match isn't a lock. After a sweep of Lindenwood in the first match of the season, the Lions took the Mastodons to an entertaining five sets on March 30.
Look for Pelegrin Vargas and Alex Dickmann to both have productive games. With so much attention on Vargas Dickmann has come alive to catch teams sleeping.
Match starts at 5 p.m. in what could be the final one for the seven seniors.
