Mistake-prone Cougars still roll
VICTORIA JACOBSEN | The Journal Gazette
Saint Francis did not have a perfect game against St. Ambrose. The Cougars were penalized 17 times for 223 – yes, 223 – yards. Star running back Justin Green remained on the sidelines with a sprained ankle. And Saint Francis lost two fumbles, including one just a yard short of the goal line.
But on Saturday, at least, none of that cost the Cougars, who beat the Fighting Bees 60-14 after completely dominating the first half.
The running game was as potent as ever under P.J. Dean, who rushed for 154 yards and three touchdowns, and Eli Wallace, who gained 79 yards and scored a touchdown.
Quarterback Matt Crable completed 18 of 20 passes for 303 yards and a touchdown each to Rocky James and Dan Ricksy.
Saint Francis led 46-7 at halftime. The Cougars already had 434 yards of offense after two quarters, while the Bees had gained a total of just 33 yards in 35 plays.
