The Mad Ants didn’t have another comeback in them.
Gabe York missed a long, desperate 3-point attempt as time expired and the Mad Ants lost 124-122 to the Grand Rapids Gold, in front of an announced crowd of 3,343 on Saturday night at the DeltaPlex Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The game was decided by two Petr Cornelie free throws with 1 second remaining, after he was fouled on a shot from the top of the key by Stephen Domingo.
The Mad Ants had been down 101-80 before an Andrew Rowsey finger-roll layup kicked off a 28-7 run, culminating with a York layup, to tie it at 108. The game was back and forth from there.
Fort Wayne’s Nate Hinton had 31 points and 11 rebounds. Rowsey added 23 points. York had 19. Justin Anderson totaled 15 for the Mad Ants (2-4).
Grand Rapids (4-4) was paced by Cornelie’s 25 points. Trevon Duval and Quade Green had 23 apiece.
