New, wild free-throw rules in G League
JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette
The G League will experiment with a new free-throw rule this season.
Teams, including the Mad Ants, will now get one free throw worth one, two or three points in the wake of a foul that would normally result in one, two or three free throws being shot. The experimental free-throw rule will not apply during the last two minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime.
The G League will continue with other experimental rules, including the 14-second shot clock reset on an advance, two-minute overtimes and the reset timeout that allows teams to call a timeout to advance the ball and make substitutions but not huddle in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter and overtime.
The G League is a testing ground for the NBA on rules ideas.
