Omari Johnson big, but Mad Ants lose

Omari Johnson totaled 24 points – his largest output of the season – but the Mad Ants still weren’t able to get the victory at the G League Winter Showcase on Thursday in Las Vegas.
Isaiah Cousins and Trey Lewis scored 19 apiece to lead the Salt Lake City Stars to a 111-101 victory at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, in front of NBA executives and scouts.
The Mad Ants (8-8) will play their second Showcase game at 3 p.m. Saturday against the South Bay Lakers.
Fort Wayne had Edmond Sumner back in the lineup from his hamstring injury and he totaled 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting, but Ike Anigbogu remaining out with a finger injury.
Davon Reed had 20 points for the Mad Ants
The game was tied at 38 in the second quarter but the Stars (9-9) began to take control with an 16-6 run that culminated with Lewis making 2 of 3 free throws for a 54-44 lead.
Fort Wayne got within five when Sumner made a 3-pointer with 5:14 remaining in the fourth quarter – trimming the Salt Lake City lead to 95-90 – but Grayson Allen immediately answered with a 3-pointer at the other end.
Alize Johnson had 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Mad Ants, giving him nine double-doubles in 11 games. Rob Gray added 15 points.
