When the Mad Ants play host to the Westchester Knicks at 7 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum, they should have Edmond Sumner back from the Indiana Pacers. That should really help Fort Wayne, as it tries to get some consistency in what it's doing at both ends of the court.
Sumner has averaged 24.6 points, 3.8 assists and 3.2 rebounds this season for the Mad Ants. Also: 1.6 steals.
This is important because the Mad Ants had a chance to get Walt Lemon Jr. back last week, however, that didn't happen in part because the Pacers didn't want Sumner to lose any playing time when he was in Fort Wayne. That tells me the Pacers envision Sumner spending a lot of time with the Mad Ants, as long as Victor Oladipo is healthy with the big club.
I have seen some chatter, however, about how people are wondering why the Pacers have burned through so many of Sumner's days of service in the NBA without really using him. He's only played 27 minutes over seven NBA games this season, making 2 of 7 shots for five points with one assist and three rebounds.
At some point, the Pacers will either have to just leave him here or convert him to a standard contract, it would seem.
