Nellis, former Komets player, has hat trick in ECHL All-Star Classic

Former Komets forward Anthony Nellis had a hat trick and the Kansas City Mavericks’ Marcus Crawford was selected MVP, as the ECHL’s All-Stars defeated the Jacksonville Icemen 14-7 in the All-Star Classic on Monday in Jacksonville, Florida, where an announced crowd of 7,687 was on hand.

Nellis plays for the Trois-Rivières Lions. His teammate, Olivier Galipeau, was plus-2.

Former Komets player Logan Nelson, of the Rapid City Rush, had one goal and two points.

Komets goalie Samuel Harvey was chosen to participate but had been called up to the American Hockey League, as had several players selected to be in what became a makeshift lineup.

Justin Kapelmaster, another former Fort Wayne player, stopped 14 of 20 shots for the Icemen.

In the fastest skater event, Jacksonville’s Ben Hawerchuk won with a time of 13.01 seconds. Nellis was second in 13:15.

In the hardest shot event, Jacksonville’s Croix Evingson’s won at 90 mph. Teammate Derek Lodermeier won the shooting accuracy event.
