Former Komets goalie Nagle on US Olympic Team

JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette

Goaltender Pat Nagle, who played for the Komets from 2014 to 2017, was selected today to play for the US in the upcoming Winter Olympics in Beijing.

The NHL decided last month not to send its players to the Olympics because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the US has, instead, filled its roster with players from the minor leagues, overseas professional leagues and amateur ranks.

Nagle, 34, has played this season for the American Hockey League’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms, going 5-0-3 with a 2.74 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage, and the ECHL’s Reading Royals, going 7-2-3 with a 2.58 GAA, a .927 SP and one shutout.

The other US goalies are Strauss Mann, who is playing in the Swedish Hockey League, and Boston University’s Drew Commesso.

Another former Komets goalie, Roman Will, will compete for the Czech Republic.
