Komets' Harvey (now in AHL) selected ECHL All-Star
JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette
Goaltender Samuel Harvey has been selected to represent the Komets at the ECHL All-Star Classic, though he’s currently in the higher-level American Hockey League with the San Jose Barracuda. Assuming he remains there through the weekend, it's not yet known if another Komets player will participate.
Harvey, who was 8-1-2 with a 2.33 goals-against average, a .933 save percentage and one shutout as a rookie before he was called up Dec. 27, was selected by coaches, team captains, media-relations directors, broadcasters and reporters.
The Classic will be 7:30 p.m. Monday in Jacksonville, Florida, and pit the ECHL All-Stars against the host Icemen. The other goalies chosen as all-stars were Wichita’s Even Buitenhuis and Worcester’s Ken Appleby.
A plethora of the league's top players have been called to the AHL in recent weeks, as the pandemic has created unprecedented player movement throughout hockey, and the ECHL plans to announce substitutions for the Classic this weekend.
The ECHL has partnered with the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association and the Premier Hockey Federation and two members of each organization will participate in the Classic. They are the PWHPA’s Sophia Shaver and Loran Gabel, plus the PHF’s Allie Thunstrom and Jillian Dempsey.
The game will air on NHL Network.
