Komets to wear MLK jerseys Jan. 14 for charity
JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette
OK, not only is this cool, I can’t find evidence of another professional hockey team having done it.
The Komets are preparing to announce they’ll hold a Martin Luther King Jr. night on Jan. 14 at Memorial Coliseum, when they play the Indy Fuel. Here's the unique part: Fort Wayne will wear special MLK uniforms.
The jerseys will be auctioned off to benefit Healthier Moms and Babies, an organization whose goal is to reduce infant mortality and improve the outcome of pregnancy in Allen County by offering health education and services to low-income, high-risk pregnant women and their families.
The night will be sponsored by CareSource.
The Komets’ MLK uniforms will be purple, black and white and recognize June 5, 1963, when King, the famed civil rights leader, made a historic speech at what had been the Scottish Rite.
