As the Komets ready for Game 2 of the season, 8 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum against the Wheeling Nailers, the focus needs to be on play in the defensive zone.
I don’t just mean defending against the Nailers’ offense. The Komets need to be more adept at getting the puck out of their zone to get the offense moving in the other direction.
With an almost entirely new defensive corps, I think this will be the toughest thing for the Komets to get sharp at this season. Turnovers must be limited.
In the 5-2 season-opening victory over the Kalamazoo Wings, the Komets weren’t totally fluid in this respect.
Offensively, I don’t have much worry about Fort Wayne’s capabilities. But they need to prove they’re reliable in their own end.
