The Komets almost certainly need to win this game against the Kalamazoo Wings, if they want to cling to their shrinking chances of getting third place in the Central Division. With seven games left, the Komets trail Toledo by seven points.
Even worse, if the Komets lose, they will be tied with Kalamazoo, which is currently in fourth place. Does it really matter? Well, yeah. I actually think the Komets could give the Walleye a run in a playoff series, and they could do the same to Cincinnati actually, and home-ice advantage would be therefore huge.
Before you think me being too naïve, what I’m saying is the Komets would find Cincinnati or Toledo to be a far more favorable matchup than Kalamazoo or Indy. The Komets tend to play down to their opponents. And that’s exactly why they may have trouble in this game tonight; the Wings have been a thorn in the Komets’ sides all season.
