For the first time sine they've been affiliated with the NHL's Vegas Golden Knights, the Komets have had a player called up to a higher level. Goaltender Zach Fucale, the only player who had been with the Komets under an NHL contract, was called to Chicago of the higher-level American Hockey League today.
Fucale was 1-3-0 with a 4.23 goals-against average and a .853 save percentage, perhaps deceptive numbers because the Komets are off to a 1-5-0 start and have lost five straight games.
The Komets are off until Friday, when they play host to the Indy Fuel at 8 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum. If Fucale isn't back by then, they expect to be able to activate rookie goalie Kyle Hayton from injured reserve and have him available along with Lukas Hafner, who is 0-2-0 with a 2.34 GAA and .914 SP for Fort Wayne.
