City and development officials announced today an $11.9 million project at The Landing that includes renovating the former Columbia Street West Bar and Grill.
The project involves the historic preservation of three buildings on West Columbia Street and new infill construction on two empty lots. Columbia Street West, located at 135 W. Columbia St., will be renovated, and new building construction will be behind the former bar and along its east side.
The upper floors of 126 W. Columbia St., where Nawa is housed, will be renovated as well.
Once the project is completed, The Landing will have 21,326 square feet of new commercial and retail space and 21 new housing units, which will be a mix of affordable and market-rate units.
The city, through the Department of Housing and Urban Development, is putting $750,000 in funding from the HOME Investment Partnerships Program to make sure affordable housing is part of the development project, a news release states.
Steve Smith of The Model Group, the developer, said he is excited to keep the momentum going with development at The Landing.
“Preserving Fort Wayne’s proud history while creating new vibrant spaces to attract the region’s best and brightest has been our goal from the beginning,” he said in a news release. “We are grateful for the city’s vision and partnership to bring this to fruition.”
