Fort Wayne International Airport will soon offer flights to Las Vegas.
Officials this morning announced twice-weekly flights to Sin City will start June 4 and run through Aug. 17. Allegiant Air will operate the non-stop seasonal route.
"We are excited to welcome Las Vegas service on Allegiant to FWA," said Scott Hinderman, executive director of airports. "Allegiant has been a great partner with FWA over the years, and we are thrilled to see that partnership continue to grow into new markets."
It's at least the second time the airport has had a Las Vegas route. One ended in 2008 amid a slow economy that hampered airlines' ability to offer service to the city, Hinderman said.
The new route is the 14th non-stop destination offered by the airport. It's the seventh non-stop route run by Allegiant, and it is the second route from Fort Wayne to the western United States.
Allegiant also offers flights to Phoenix.
Hinderman and Mayor Tom Henry each noted in a news conference the new route is seasonal – for now. Hinderman said many flyers had asked about service to Las Vegas, and he hopes flights there at some point will become permanent.
