A Fort Wayne woman accused of shooting a man to death last week is charged with murder.
Kennisha Jackson, 19, was formally charged this morning with murder and faces a sentencing enhancement for using a gun to commit the crime.
Police say she shot Diquan Meriwether, 19, in the chest Jan. 14. Jackson had been charged with aggravated battery and battery resulting in serious bodily injury, but the charges were upgraded today.
She faces up to 85 years in prison if she is convicted.
Court documents say Meriwether went to meet Jackson to collect money from her. A witness reported hearing a gunshot, and Meriwether ran to the car where the witness was waiting and collapsed.
Jackson told police Meriwether brandished a gun, he dropped it, she picked it up and shot him, according to court documents.
Another witness told investigators Jackson and Meriwether both had guns.
