A 5-month-old baby boy with bruising and head trauma was pronounced dead Sunday morning at Parkview Randallia Hospital, and his mother has been charged with neglect of a dependent, Fort Wayne police said today.
Jasmine M. Johnson, 30, was to appear in court Friday, police said in a statement.
Police said officers were called to the hospital, 2200 Randallia Drive, after Johnson brought the unresponsive baby to the emergency room at 8:43 a.m.; he was pronounced dead at 9:06 a.m.
A doctor told police the baby had what appeared to be traumatic head injuries, pointing to depressions in his skull.
Johnson was interviewed by detectives and "admitted to drinking all night with another person and waking up, alone, with the child on the floor," the police statement said. It said the case remains under investigation.
