Former Mad Ants and NBA guard Travis Leslie had 20 points today, leading the Fort Wayne Champs to a 96-59 victory over Showtime in the first round of The Basketball Tournament, a winner-take-all $2-million event.
At Lexington, Kentucky, the Champs, who are predominantly former Mad Ants players, used a 32-21 run to take a 48-30 halftime lead. That was up to 73-54 by the end of the third quarter.
Leslie made 8 of 13 shots.
Cameron Jackson had 16 points. Matt Bouldin added 15. Trey McKinney Jones had 11 points and six rebounds.
The Champs made 51.4% of their shots, compared with the 41.1% of Showtime, which was paced by Charles Mann Jr.’s 16 points.
The Champs play their second-round game at 6 p.m. Saturday on ESPN2.
