Inmate walks off from state prison

The Journal Gazette

A Waterloo man in prison for burglary walked away from the low-level facility at the Indiana State Prison on Wednesday, and a warrant was issued for his arrest, the Department of Correction said.

At 11 a.m., the staff at the Michigan City prison realized that Travis Hornett, 39, was missing from outside work detail at the low-security housing unit, the department said in a statement.

Because Hornett was a minimum-security offender, he was part of the outside maintenance work crew. Hornett is serving a five-year sentence for burglary.

Hornett is 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds, the statement said. Officials are asking the public not to approach Hornett if he is spotted but to call 911 immediately.
