Coolers recalled for entrapment, suffocation hazard
The Journal Gazette
Igloo Products Corp. of Katy, Texas, has recalled about 60,000 Igloo Marine Elite Coolers because the stainless-steel latch can automatically lock when the lid is closed, creating entrapment and suffocation hazards, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said today.
Consumers should put the coolers out of the reach of children and contact Igloo for instructions about removing and disposing of the old latch and getting a free replacement latch, the commission said in a statement.
The recall includes only coolers that are white with stainless-steel latches, the statement said. They were sold in 54-quart, 72-quart, 94-quart, 110-quart and 150-quart sizes between January 2015 and March of this year for $10 to $180.
Igloo has received one report of a child who was trapped in a cooler before being freed by an adult, the statement said.
Igloo can be reached toll-free at 866-509-3503 between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Fort Wayne time weekdays, or online at www.igloocoolers.com (click on "Contact Us" at the bottom left of the web page).
