A Fort Wayne man charged with trying to kill two men in September was sentenced today to a year in prison for beating a woman in a separate case.
Gabriel Hicks, 30, grabbed the woman by the throat Dec. 22, choked her and punched her at least 20 times, according to court documents. He pleaded guilty in March to domestic battery and strangulation and was sentenced this morning in Allen Superior Court.
Prosecutors agreed to dismiss a second battery charge and a habitual offender designation.
Hicks is charged with two counts of attempted murder in the shootings Sept. 21 of two men at Link's Wonderland on Creighton Avenue. He had been awaiting trial in that case when he was arrested in December and could be ordered to spend 80 years in prison if convicted.
