14U softball team wins state

The 14U Stars Softball team from Fort Wayne won the National Softball Association Class C State Tournament in Michigan City.

The girls team finished the tournament 6-0 for the weekend beating Lazers Black in the 8-6 in the championship.

Bird observation at Salamonie

Salamonie Preschool is offering “Bird Observation” 10-11:30 a.m. July 18 at the interpretive center. The program includes activities to promote learning letters, crafts, social interaction and time outdoors. The cost is $2 per child. Advanced registration is appreciated by calling 260-468-2127.

100-mile course record broken

Jim Walmsley and Courtney Dauwalter were winners at Western States Endurance Run in northern California on June 23-24. The 100-mile race goes between Squaw Valley and Auburn.

Despite warmer-than-average temperatures, Walmsley beat Tim Olson's course record set in 2012 by 16 minutes, finishing in 14 hours, 30 minutes and 4 seconds. It was his third attempt at the course record.

Dauwalter ran the second fastest women's time, finishing in 17:27. The course record is 16:47:19 set in 2012.
