Jr. Olympians had support
Local companies contributed to help eight Junior Olympic qualifiers from The X-Count.
The qualifiers and contributors include: Mackenzie Miller in air rifle (Century 21 Bradley), Katelyn Tinsley in smallbore rifle (Precision Electric, Mishawaka), Corey Schreiber in air rifle (Glenbrook Dodge), Gabe Tippmann in air rifle (Tippmann Innovation), Ben Butler in air rifle (Image Cars), Eric Uetrecht (Allen County Sherriff), Zach Hegbli in air rifle (Allen County Sherriff) and Alex Hoover in air rifle and smallbore (Plymouth and Culver Academy Families).
The competitors will travel to the U.S. Olympic Training Facility in Colorado Springs for the Junior Olympic competition.
The men's rifle runs Friday through April 12 with the women April 13-19.
Outdoor recreation director named
Dale Brier was named the new director of the Indiana Department of Resources outdoor recreation.
Brier has worked in the division for more than 20 years, starting in 1997 as an intermittent laborer working on Wildcat Creek.
He was a streams and trails specialist, section chief for streams and trails and has worked on the Trails Advisory Board, the Blue River Commission and the Wabash River Heritage Corridor Commission.
Brier replaces Steve Morris, who retired last year.
DNR spring photo contest opens
The DNR invites photographers to show off by participating in the Indiana State Parks spring photo contest on social media.
The prizes include $100 to State Parks Inns for the highest vote-getter and an annual pass, annual lake permit, horse permit or off-road cycling permit for the 10 runners-up.
Take photos of spring wildflowers, scenic beauty or selfies of spring activities in the 32 Indiana State Parks or seven State Parks Inns until May 12.
