Run for Fallen starts 140-mile journey in city
The Indiana Run for the Fallen will begin at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Friday and will run for three days to Veterans Memorial Plaza in Indianapolis.
The course is over 140 miles, with the first leg between Fort Wayne and Portland. The second goes to Anderson and the third concludes in Indianapolis.
Each mile is dedicated to an Indiana Hero and the Core Run Team will stop at every hero marker and present an American flag, according to the event's website.
Opening ceremonies will be 7:30 a.m. Friday at the Coliseum, with closing ceremonies at 1 p.m. in Indianapolis.

Free Fishing Day events
Pokagon State Park will be celebrating the second Free Fishing Day of the year on May 20. Fishing equipment and bait will be provided and families are welcome to join naturalists at the fishing pier at Trine State Recreation Area.
Salamonie Lake will be celebrating the Free Fishing Day on June 3 with a Youth and Family Fishing Derby from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. To register and for more information, call 260-468-2127.
Field trip grants available
Educators interested in taking students grades K-12 to an Indiana state park or state-managed lake can receive financial help through the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation. The Discovering the Outdoors Field Trip Grant Program is for public, private, parochial or home-school educators. Applications can be found at IN.gov/inrf/educate.html.
