TinCaps win in 10, sweep Bees for 5th victory in row
Reinaldo Ilarraza scored on a wild pitch in the 10th inning Friday to lift the TinCaps to a 2-1 victory over the Bees and a sweep of the three-game series in Burlington, Iowa.
It was the fifth consecutive victory for Fort Wayne (15-7 second half, 41-51), which has won six of its last seven and is in second place in the Midwest League's Eastern Division, 11/2 games back of first-half division winner West Michigan (16-5).
Ilarraza entered the game as a pinch-runner for Jorge Oņa, who was walked. With Hudson Potts batting, Ilarraza advanced to second on a wild pitch from Bees pitcher Adrian Almeida.
After Potts and G.K. Young struck out, Ilarraza scored on another Almeida wild pitch with Buddy Reed at the plate.
The TinCaps scored in the second when Potts scored on a Jack Suwinski single to left field.
Burlington (9-13, 40-51) tied it in the sixth inning on a home run to left from Jahmai Jones.
TinCaps starter Reggie Lawson struck out seven and gave up three hits and one run in seven innings. Closer Diomar Lopez (2-2) struck out five in two innings of scoreless, one-hit relief.
The TinCaps travel to Peoria, Illinois, for a three-game series starting at 7:30 p.m. today.
