Mad Ants 116 Westchester 104
Poythress' 30 points, 13 rebounds propel Mad Ants
Alex Poythress' third G League game of the season was his best so far, a 30-point, 13-rebound effort in a 116-104 victory over the Westchester Knicks that propelled Fort Wayne to a 10-2 record.
In front of an announced crowd of 1,059 at the Westchester County Center in New York, Poythress, who has spent most of the season with the NBA's Indiana Pacers, made 11 of 22 shots and 7 of 12 from the free-throw line Wednesday night.
Teammate DeQuan Jones had 20 points as the Mad Ants won for the 10th time in their last 11 games and improved to 3-1 on road. The only loss in that span came to the Knicks, 107-94, at Memorial Coliseum on Saturday night.
Walt Lemon Jr. and Stephan Hicks had 18 points apiece with Ben Moore adding 14.
Things turned in Fort Wayne's favor in the third quarter, when the Mad Ants opened with a 12-2 run, culminating with a Jones layup, to take a 67-57 lead. Hicks' 3-pointer with 7:22 remaining in the fourth quarter put them up 95-80.
Westchester (9-4), which is 4-4 at home, was paced by Trey Burke's 29 points on 11-of-22 shooting and Luke Kornet's 19 points.
The Mad Ants' victory came a day after center Ike Anigbogu was called up to the Pacers and despite Jarrod Uthoff and C.J. Fair combining for only 10 points and six rebounds.
