Spartans earn big win for coach

Homestead boys basketball coach Chris Johnson notched his 400th career victory Tuesday night in the Spartans' 51-44 win over Blackhawk Christian.

Zak Krueger scored 15 to lead the Spartans (10-1). Luke Goode scored 11 points, going 9 of 11 from the free throw line. He hit six of them in the fourth quarter to give Homestead some separation.

Frank Davidson led Blackhawk with a game-high 17 points. He had a 10-point fourth quarter.

CENTRAL NOBLE 84, HAMILTON 42: In Hamilton, Ridley Zolman's 26-point night paired with Connor Essegian's 22 helped Central Noble (9-3) cruise to an easy victory. The Cougars shot 63 percent from the field and assisted on 19 of 35 baskets. Bailey Merritt had 19 points for Hamilton.

HUNTINGTON NORTH 52, CONCORDIA 37: In Huntington, the Vikings' defense held the Cadets to just four points in the second quarter and six in the fourth. Hank Pulver scored 14 points, Zach Daugherty added 13 and Sawyer Stoltz scored 10 in the win. Brayden Pearson led Concordia with 13 points.

Girls swimming

BELLMONT 98, SOUTH ADAMS 64: At the Bellmont Swim Club, Ashley LeFever won the 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard free and was part of a South Adams team that won the 200-yard medley, but Bellmont still came out on top. Natalie Dicke took first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:32.33, and teammate Makayla Guerra won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:06.50.

Boys swimming

SOUTH ADAMS 89, BELLMONT 76: At the Bellmont Swim Club, Curtis Sprunger won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:17.12 – nearly five seconds faster than second place. Davis Macke narrowly beat out South Adams' Isaac Gorrell in the 100-yard free with a time of 57.72 and Gorrell put up a 57.76.

Gymnastics

HOMESTEAD 103.35, SNIDER 78.85: The Spartans claimed the top four spots in the vault, balance beam and floor in the win. Catherine Milne also claimed first in all five events to lead Homestead. Milne's all-around score was 36.65. Yana Weir took second all-around with a score of 32.70 and Megan Carr took third with a 32.45
