Chargers knock off 4A No. 1 Huntington

Carroll upset Huntington North 7-2 on Monday.

The Vikings, the top-ranked baseball team in Class 4A, took a 2-1 lead in the third, but the Chargers responded with four in the bottom of the fifth and held on.

Langston Ginder earned the win. He gave up two earned runs on six hits, walking three and striking out three. He also hit a two-run double. Hayden Jones went 2 for 2 with two runs and an RBI, including a home run, and Nathan Fish hit a homer.

Vikings starter Gage Sandlin gave up the two home runs and six earned runs on six hits.


WAYNE 13, NORTH SIDE 0: At Wayne, Kamden Boice gave up three hits and struck out eight in five innings to earn the win for the Generals.


BISHOP DWENGER 16, WAYNE 0: At Wayne, Olivia Dickerson hit for the cycle, gave up one hit and pitched a shutout while Isabella McGillicuddy hit a grand slam to aid the Saints.


BISHOP DWENGER 145, COLUMBIA CITY 165: At Coyote Creek, Logan Ryan and Danny Kimes shot 1-under 35s for the Saints on the 3,289-yard front nine, and Luke Miller added an even-par 36.

Spencer McCammon led the Eagles with a 39.


The IHSAA released sectional pairings Monday.

Fourth-ranked Carroll opens its tournament against Blackhawk Christian with the winner facing Churubusco.

Homestead, ranked 18th, plays host to Wayne, and 21st-ranked Canterbury, the defending sectional champion, faces Bishop Luers with the winners facing off in the championship.

Defending champion and host Concordia opens against the winner of North Side vs. Bishop Dwenger.

Other defending champions' opening-round matchups: Adams Central faces the winner of Huntington North and Bellmont in the Norwell sectional; host Angola faces Prairie Heights; Central Noble plays host West Noble; and Warsaw, looking for its 18th consecutive sectional crown, faces Tippecanoe Valley.
