Khaliq officially leaves Legends
North Side boys basketball coach Shabaz Khaliq was confirmed to the same position at Richmond when the district's school board met Wednesday, according to the Richmond Palladium-Item.
Khaliq led North Side to a 145-50 record in his eight seasons as head coach, including a state championship appearance in 2017. The Legends won the SAC Tournament title in each of his last five seasons at the helm, as well as three regular-season conference titles.
Khaliq also played at North Side, graduating from in 1995. After high school, he played at Earlham College, which is in Richmond.
Before coaching at North Side, he led Elmhurst for two seasons, compiling a 30-14 record and winning a sectional title in 2010.
CONCORDIA 6, WAYNE 3: The Cadets (10-8) had 13 hits, including a triple from Jason Schneider, and won at Parkview Field.
HOMESTEAD 16, NORTH SIDE 0: The Spartans (11-7) scored eight runs in the first and Ryan Lunsford pitched five scoreless innings at Homestead.
NORTHRIDGE 12, WAWASEE 3: Ben Becker doubled twice and Nick Logan had three hits for Northridge (8-7) in the road victory.
ADAMS CENTRAL 6, CARROLL 3: Alyssa Fennig and Nevada Koch each had two hits and scored twice for the Flying Jets (11-4).
Ava Nieuwlandt led host Carroll with two hits.
WAYNE 15, SOUTH SIDE 3: The Generals (5-12) scored at least three runs in each inning. Baylee Fuller doubled and got the home win on the mound.
CONCORDIA 17, NORTHROP 0: Mariah Perez threw a no-hitter and struck out 10 for the Cadets (16-5). Libby Hetler hit a home run.
NORTHRIDGE 21, WAWASEE 11: Host Northridge (12-4) overcame a 9-0 deficit with a 15-run sixth inning. Makena Knepp homered and drove in six runs.
HOMESTEAD 3, HUNTINGTON NORTH 2: The Spartans (11-3, 5-1 SAC) swept the two doubles matches, and freshman Olivia Creech beat Huntington North's Cassidy Thompson.
BISHOP LUERS 4, BISHOP DWENGER 1: Caroline Rahrig captured her singles match 6-0, 6-0 for the Knights.
SNIDER 5, CHURUBUSCO 0: The Panthers won all five matches in straight sets.
CARROLL 4, MARION 1: The Chargers (17-0) stayed unbeaten as Sydney Jackson, Katelyn VanWyngarden and Bailey Newman all won singles matches at Marion.
