C. Noble headed back to semistate

Sydney Freeman scored seven of her 18 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Central Noble girls basketball team to a 48-36 victory over Hammond Noll and a second straight regional championship in a Class 2A finals at Winamac on Saturday night.

Freeman had three 3-pointers for the Cougars (21-5), who have won seven straight games.

Meleah Leatherman had 15 points and Lydia Andrews added nine for the Cougars, who opened the game with a 16-8 run and led 25-14 at halftime.

In the semifinals, Central Noble defeated Bluffton 47-35. The Cougars were paced by Freeman's 16 points and Leatherman's 12. Central Noble closed the game with a 13-2 run to set up the final with Hammond Noll, which defeated North Judson 65-54.

For Bluffton (17-8), Emme Boots had 14 points and Grace Miller added 10.

Last season, Central Noble also made it to semistate but lost 42-33 to Oak Hill. The Cougars will play Frankton this year, after it defeated Oak Hill 68-58 on Saturday.

CASTON REGIONAL: In Class A, Lakewood Park lost a semifinal 29-28 to North White, which was down 16-13 at halftime and then went on a 13-6 third-quarter run to take control before a defensive-minded fourth quarter. In the final, Marquette Catholic beat North White 32-19.

TIPTON REGIONAL: In Class A, Rockville defeated Southern Wells 48-46 in the semifinals.

Boys basketball

JAY COUNTY 55, LEO 51: At Leo-Cedarville, Wyatt Geesaman had 22 points for the Patriots. The Lions were paced by Jeremy Davison's 19 points.

CARMEL 53, CARROLL 42: At Carmel, Jalen Whack had points to lead the Greyhounds. Dan McKeeman scored 14 points for Carroll.

ADAMS CENTRAL 50, EASTSIDE 47: Johnny Carroll led the Jets with 18 points. Caleb Ballentine had 26 for the Blazers.


EAST CHICAGO CENTRAL SEMISTATE: Wawasee finished eighth with 49.5 points, well behind winning Portage's 184.

At 132 pounds, Wawasee's Geremia Brooks lost 14-2 to Manzona Bryant of Culver Acadamies in the finals. In the semifinals, Brooks defeated Harrison's Cody Betourne with a fall at 3:53.
